Named Insured

What it means
The person or entity listed on the policy as the primary insured — the one the contract is written for.
Tennessee example
On a Murfreesboro auto policy, the named insured is usually the person who applied; household drivers may be listed separately.
Why it hits your wallet
If your name isn't on the policy correctly, claim checks, cancellations, and COI requests get messy fast.

The named insured has rights and duties under the contract (paying premium, reporting changes, receiving notices). Other people can be insureds or additional insureds under defined conditions — but the named insured is the anchor on the declarations page. When you marry, divorce, form an LLC, or buy a house in a trust, ask whether the named-insured line still matches reality.
